Some people think sleep is a waste of time. ‘You can sleep when you’re dead’, is a phrase used by a lot of (young) people, mostly as an excuse to go out. But I’m a person who values their rest. Hell, if I have nothing to do, I’ll happily spend the day snoring in bed. But not too long ago, I had to drag myself out of the warm little nest I made to attend to opening of one of Amsterdam’s best new shop additions; Urban Outfitters. And I wasn’t disappointed.
Hipster as hell
More than one person I know has visited Antwerp just to go and drop some major bucks at this place and when I lived in Berlin for a short time, I couldn’t get enough of it. Expensive as it may be (for people on a student budget. Or any budget, actually), this store is the bees knees when it comes to the pieces to create that extraordinary ‘street style’ ensemble that’ll get you noticed by anyone with a camera. OK, I’ll just say it: it’s hipster as hell. But in a good way. Plus, upstairs they sell a selection of designer clothing; Carin Wester among others, which I can’t afford but like to stare at.

Urban Outfitters doesn’t just sell clothes though. They’ve got a selection of the best goodies for your home and I’m a huge fan of their flask collection (I’ve got one that says: ‘Girls with class don’t need a glass’, what more could you want in life?). It’s an excellent store to buy presents and their record and book collection is also pretty impressive.
So, next time you find yourself wandering the Kalverstraat, check it out, but make sure you bring a wad of cash. Or a credit card. After all, there is a bit of hipster in all of us.
