Have you already visited my favourite, Berlin-ish, temporary nightclub DoKa? If not, hurry yourself to the Wibautstraat. The basement of the former Volkskrant building now holds a disco with Amsterdam-atypical extravaganza: finally some more craziness you have to find out for yourself. An event like MORGENAVOND filled the place up last Saturday, but also on Thursdays and Sundays are worth a visit. Preparing for ADE and not really into a party mode upcoming weekend? Then Kriterion‘s film night is the best way to check out this new hotspot and save your energy.
Mad men
With the project Kriterion On/Off, this art-house explores new ways of experiencing film. Last year they held a three day long film festival in the industrial hall of Amsterdam Roest. One of the films they showed was Reservoir Dogs, and since all the (anti)heroes are wandering in a big hall too, the viewing made you feel very close to these shouting men on screen. And made you feel a bit more heroic as well. Besides this form of watching a film being very comfortable, you can get a beer whenever you want, drink it, and even smoke a cigarette.
For this edition they chose two special screenings. The first is a short film, La Jetée. This French piece of art from director Chris Maker, floats somewhere between a film and a ‘photo novel’. All black and white stills, it’ll definitely surprise you. The main one is called 12 monkeys, where a panicking Bruce Willis and lunatic Brad Pitt travel through time. No surprise that this peculiar location and these mad stories go hand in hand. Inspired and not tired after watching? From 23:30 you can dance your tense away without leaving the raw setting of DoKa, with DJs Krasz, Mudde, Zwaan (live) en Arenque.
