Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow down your options by suggesting some events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. Here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Friday: Pleinvrees Weekender @ Amsterdam Studios
Melody is key for this weekender. Pleinvrees represents everything from deep house to melodic techno in two days. Although Saturday’s edition sold out already, Friday is still available for the interested. It features none other than Guy Gerber, Kölsch, Gabriel Ananda, Andhim, Arjuna Schiks, Compuphonic b2b Kolombo, HOMEWORK, Andre Crom b2b Teenage Mutants, Alex Q, Pete Oak, Prunk, Olaf Stuut and Kjeld Langeveld. A line-up that cuts to the chase basically, starting at 7pm and ending at 5am, get your energizers together.
Saturday: PIXEL – DIAL SPECIAL & SWTBOX @ Trouw
Dial Records is a music label focusing primarily on post-minimalist dance music (aka the deeper side of house). It was founded in 1999 and released a number of influential 12″ and full-length albums by artists such as Lawrence, Carsten Jost, Pantha du Prince, Efdemin, John Roberts and many more. With two new amazing records on the shelves by Lawrence and John Roberts (live), these guys found the right moment to present this contemporary selection of music to the electronica lover in Amsterdam. Support comes from your host for the night Jorn Liefdeshuis. Downstairs has a more in your face music approach, featuring Tripeo (live), Nuno Dos Santos and D-Ribeiro for what is to be a SWTBOX.
PS. Win John Robert’s new album, some guestlists and a fresh Pixel shirt, read all about it here.
Saturday: Aspirations – presents Genius of Time Live @ DOKA
DOKA, the new place to dance in town! Always exciting. This Saturday, just across the street from Trouw, an incredible live show will take place. Genius of Time is an ensemble of old school meeting new school house, fusing the analog sounds of beloved machines with modern technologies and possibilities. Steady grooves coupled with live instrumentation and improvisation, with a serious hardware setup for your eyes, ears and feet. Also on the bill, Fabian Bruhn and Aspirations resident Shadee. What I would suggest, is to go to Trouw after 3 or 4am when DOKA closes, and enjoy the hangover properly. Good Weekend.
