Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow down your options by suggesting some events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. Here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Thursday: KULT KWARTIER @ Soiree Huize Frankendael
This Thursday, a very special location called Huize Frankendael celebrates its fifth anniversary with a soiree filled with theater, high-quality food, art, stories, drinks and music selected by Kult Kwartier. During this evening you can expect a music programme full of warm and melodic electronics played by promising live acts. Special attention goes out to Weval, who played a magnificent set at our festival last Sunday, and Lemontrip, from whom you’ll be hearing a lot more this year, I’m sure. If you’ve never been to Huize Frankendael, this might be the perfect occasion.
Friday: The Big Man Himself: Monkey Safari @ Chicago Social Club
It’s actually been a while since the last Big Man Himself. This time around, it’s Monkey Safari who’ll be shining behind the decks for an all-nighter. Their music is tropically flavoured, crossed with an electric spark, ideal for drunken nights out, falling off heels and losing half of your drink to the dance floor. As a DJ team they merrily merge different music genres and styles from all over the globe; sometimes soft and melodic, sometimes deep and conscious, at others down and dirty. One thing is sure, the mood is always happy. Go misbehave.
Saturday: Magneet Electric – Closing Weekend! @ Magneet Festival
A month long, each weekend at Magneet Festival is assigned a different musical direction. September 14th is the closing date for the festival featuring ‘Magneet Electric’, a day reserved for quality electronic music hosted by many of Amsterdam’s highly regarded underground music organisations: Cartel, Chasing the Hihat, Deep House Amsterdam, PRISMA, LEGAAL!, Pleinvrees, RESORT, BURN and many other bonus and secret stages. Judging on previous years’ success, as well as the compelling line-up, Magneet Electric promises to be one hell of a closing party for this year’s festival season. I’m not even gonna get started about the line-up (just the fact that both Secret Cinema and Steve Rachmad are in for it as well), it’s all gonna be there. By the way, festival artists will all be present at the official after party in Studio 80, support your local scene!
