A lot is happening around the Wibautstraat. Clubs, restaurants and exposition spaces keep popping up and disappearing. The area is in transition, which is usually a good breeding ground for creativity and out-of-the-box thinking. The Volkskrant building is being turned into a hotel for example, but that’s not what I’m here to write about. I’m here to talk about something brewing in a dark basement..

DOKA

For eight months, the people behind Canvas op de 7e and Amsterdam Roest will have something new to play with. In the basement of the Volkskrant building they are working on DOKA: a new temporary club, art space and creative hub in Amsterdam. DJs, performers and other artists will be challenged to explore this new world and experiment with its possibilities. Young people of the night will be served something different; something flamboyant.

I won’t tell any more yet, you will have to experience it for yourself…
