Amsterdam has seen countless memorable festivals over the course of the summer, but Magneet festival is something just that little bit different. Magneet offers a truely “out of the ordinary, out-of-the-box” (could I even go so fas as to say r.e.v.o.l.u.t.i.o.n.a.r.y?) approach to the festival experience. And even though Magneet festival also signals the end of summer 2013 in Amsterdam, it is something i have really been looking forward to.

Magneet festival differentiates itself by being a truly multidisciplinary event which calls for all spectators to become active participators in creating their own playing field in music, theatre, experimental constructions, fine arts and even children’s activities. It’s hard to describe Magneet without mentioning their free-spirited forefathers at Ruigoord, Burning Man and other innovative festivals such as Fusion.

Instead of spoon-feeding the audience a musical preference or a preconfigured time-table, Magneet invites people from all creative corners to join in to actualize their own festival. Such socialist managing of their stages offers an opportunity for a wide variety of musical spontaneity but also offers creative collectives from all around the world to unite in a vision of a co-created, crowd-sourced, alternative festival – all on an artificial sand patch in Amsterdam’s east: Zeeburgereiland.

Magneet Electric

For a month long, starting on the 23rd of August till the 15th September, each weekend is assigned a different musical direction. September 14th is the date for ‘Magneet Electric’, a day reserved for quality electronic music hosted by four of Amsterdam’s highly regarded underground music organisations: Cartel, Chasing the Hihat, Deep House Amsterdam and PRISMA as well as a bonus stage with mystery guests.

Judging on previous years’ success, as well as their compelling line up, Magneet Electric promises to be one hell of a closing party for this year’s festival season. Check the line-up below:
