Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow down your options by suggesting some events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. Here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Friday: RTFKT Night @ klinch, Melkweg
After a handful of sold-out club nights in Amsterdam’s OT301 and Nijmegen, the www.rtfkt.net boys will set up camp at the Melkweg this Friday. For this edition, apart from RTFKT residents Applescal, Jord3n & PNOQ, they invited two top acts to join them: Taragana Pyjarama & Olaf Stuut. First guest is Danish melodic master Taragana Pyjarama, who released an impressive album on Michael Mayer’s Kompakt which resulted in an appearance on Sasha’s Involv3r mix. The 24th of June he releases his second album ‘Nothing Hype’ on Wyrd Records. Second guest is Olaf Stuut. His music explores the energy between dancefloor beats, fuzzy soft synths and intelligent harmonies. He’ll be releasing his debut album on Manual Music this autumn. Expect a highly danceable night filled with trippy beats topped with equally trippy melodies.
Friday: Summer Closing Weekend: HiFi & A Love From Outer Space @ Trouw
HiFi is the indie-house night at Trouw hosted by Nuno Dos Santos and Patrice Bäumel. A Place for amazing music as they call it. This Friday they’ve invited Ivan Smagghe, France’s most wanted radio host and selector. Ivan Smagghe stands at the crossroads between glamorous parisian hype and musical integrity. Of course, your hosts Patrice and Nuno will be present with the finest of complicated dance music. But, as if that wasn’t enough, expect a whole different game downstairs at De Verdieping featuring Andrew Weatherall & Sean Johnston playing back to back all night long! Whoa.
Sunday: THUISHAVEN w/ Olivier Weiter @ Westpoort
Finally, Thuishaven. As they’ve been doing every Sunday for the last few weeks, Koekoek and Lazy Sundays team up for another low key outdoor festival featuring quality artists and mystery guests. This time, it’s time for Amsterdam’s rockstar of electronic music: Olivier Weiter, with another one of his classic 3 hour sets. Can’t tell you much more about the mystery guest yet, but they’ve always been great up to now. Opening the event, newcomer Peer Vos. Let’s hope the weather stays cool, I mean hot. Enjoy the hangover Amsterdam.
