Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow down your options by suggesting some events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. Here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Friday: We Love.. Amsterdam w/ Simian Mobile Disco, Benny Rodrigues @ AIR
Interesting (new) concept featuring big names at AIR this Friday night! For example, Simian Mobile Disco, an English electronic music duo and production team from London, formed in 2005 by James Ford and Jas Shaw of the band Simian. Musically, they are known for their analogue production. In addition to his work with Simian Mobile Disco, Ford is a producer and has worked with artists such as Florence and the Machine, Peaches, Arctic Monkeys and Klaxons. Not the least of artists out there. Benny Rodrigues is of course everybody’s friend in The Netherlands, the guy surely knows what a crowd wants, weather it’s in his home town Rotterdam or the capital. Local support comes from Quentin van Honk and personal favourite Jan van der Lugt.
Saturday: Ballenbaque @ Noorderlicht
New party in town, second edition! Prepare for a musical journey music varying from boogie to deep house with side stops towards electro swing and future disco. But this isn’t even their USP. No, the air at this party will be filled with colours, smells, fairytale-like décors, latex and most important are of course balloons. All they want you to do is prepare for a night to dress up, wonder, and behave like your true self (whatever that may be). Let’s just say we’ll leave it up to balloon artist Micha de Haan and his crew, who know how to set up a decent ambience after setting festivals and events like Coachella, Nachtdigital, Time Warp, Valtifest, DGTL, Pleinvrees and Next Monday’s Hangover alight. Artists on the bill this time: Basti Grub live (DE), Jan van der Lugt, HAARBAARBAAR, BeatuniQue and our friend No Reset. Of course, there will be a camp fire at Noorderlicht.
Saturday: After Buiten Westen ☮ 2013 @ MC Theater & North Sea Jazz Club
Last but not least: Buiten Westen’s one and only official after party. That’s right, in just one year Buiten Westen has become one of the most anticipated festivals in Amsterdam. For those that were present last year, they might still remember the spontaneous B2B sets of several big festival artists. This year, they remain silent about the billing, but expect to be surprised and carried away. Magic is bound to take place. Also, I heard Heleen Blanken (Amsterdam’s coolest visual artist) will be doing something very special at the MC Theater. Oh yeah, this year the North Sea Jazz club will be part of the experience! Just around the corner of the festival, can’t miss it. Have fun!
