About the author
Ridz, advertises, produces indie/electronic music, performs throughout the Netherlands but ultimately always ends up at an Amsterdam based ensemble... then he blogs about all these things.

In less than a month, it’s time for Welcome to the Future; the prestigious underground house and techno festival located in the extremely beautiful Twiske just North of Amsterdam. This seventh edition of Welcome to the Future festival will take place on Saturday, July 27th.

Welcome to the Future started as an indoor event at Paradiso 20 years ago and has organically evolved to one of the most credible house and techno festivals the Netherlands has to offer. Welcome to the Future stands for intimacy, a forward-thinking musical vision, great sound and a big green heart. Loco Dice, Luciano, Marco Carola, Solomun, Carl Craig, Josh Wink and Seth Troxler are just a few of the names who’ve headlined their six stages throughout the years.

Line-up

To get an idea of the musical armour this festival will be carrying, we hand-picked a few notable artists to put on the spotlight for you.

THE HEAVYWEIGHT: MACEO PLEX
Deep-house mainstay Eric Estornel has been keeping himself busy in the past few years, running his burgeoning Ellum Audio imprint, reviving his Maetrik moniker, and readying Maceo Plex’s installment for !K7’s DJ-Kicks series. Perhaps as a response to the current crush of the EDM wave, underground dance music has taken up a defensive posture by putting retro-looking house music on the front lines. It’s the right time to put out something that’s a little more deep and futuristic again. Maceo, an absolute must for any lover of cutting-edge underground house music, check him out at WTTF’s ‘Future’ stage together with Solomun and many more.

THE LOCAL ROCKSTAR: SECRET CINEMA
For the past 20 years, Jeroen Verheij aka Secret Cinema has consistently been regarded as one of the Netherlands’, if not the world’s top techno producers and live acts. He has produced some of the biggest techno anthems including Timeless Altitude, Sonar System, Mary Go Wild and two of the popular tunes on Sven Vath’s Cocoon Records – Shake Your Tech Ass & Kurzweil. He has headlined many of the biggest festivals around the globe, and just like in 2011, he’ll be our local protagonist at WTTF’s ‘Techno’ stage featuring Kevin Saunderson and Robert Hood amongst others.

THE CRAZY ONE: KiNK
Strahil Velchev aka KiNK is a house, techno, broken beat, experimental producer and DJ, based in Sofia, Bulgaria. Actually, he’s much more than that; he is an inspiration for most producers around the globe. 2013 was absolutely the year for KiNK. After series of successful records with his music, Strahil feels bigger artistic freedom and he is encouraged to push harder the musical barriers of his industry. Just have a look at his release schedule on labels like Ovum, Rush Hour, Liebe*Detail, Systematic and many other of his friends. Be sure to watch his mega-energetic live-act closely at WTTF’s ‘Circus’ stage featuring Karotte, The Man With No Shadow and many more.

THE NOVICE: DE SLUWE VOS
Aggressive kicks, rolling snares and hats slicing through your eardrums. These are the characteristics of the sound De Sluwe Vos produces. Just over twenty years old and with a huge dose of passion and experience, Robert Vosmeijer is absolutely taking over the Dutch house scene. I can’t imagine you haven’t heard of the guy by now, but if you’ve been living under a rock, I’m positive you will very soon. To get a better idea of who this guy really is, check out his own documentary. Go see him at WTTF’s ‘Forest’ stage with many other Dutch talents.

The festival is doing better than ever. It’s heading towards a sold-out status, so I wouldn’t wait too long to purchase a well-wanted ticket.
