Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow down your options by suggesting some events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. Here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Friday: Live At Robert Johnson – The Lifesaver Tour 2013 @ Trouw
Live At Robert Johnson released a compilation called The Lifesaver in April. Artists from the label embarked on an extensive European tour to promote the compilation, kicking off at Rashomon in Rome on April 12th and taking in dates in Berlin, Paris, Lyon, Munich, Amsterdam and London among others. This Friday, it’s our turn to enjoy the sounds of Frankfurt, brought to you specifically by label residents Ata, Oliver Hafenbauer and Lauer live. The latter made a huge impression the last time he played at Trouw’s underground area De Verdieping.
Saturday: Next Monday’s Hangover – The Life Aquatic with ZeeZout
On Saturday, we’re diving underwater into the dark and magical world of the deep sea. Next Monday’s Hangover will team-up with great marine explorer monsieur Steve ZeeZout for an adventure unlike any you’ve experienced before. Submerge with NMH and ZeeZout at Het Sieraad and explore the great unknown. Main area provides the stage for Sweden’s Aril Brikha who has a really melodic vibe going on, Daniel Avery from London and resident to the infamous Fabric club bringing some darker elements into the mix, and finally Innervisions evangelist Marcus Worgull from Cologne going deeper than deep. Of course, this event will be filled with enough local power and residents like Some Chemistry, Elias Mazian, KERK!, LIFE on MARS, ME.N.U., Halve Soul and No Reset. As Steve ZeeZout once stated: “A lot of people attack the sea, I make love to it.” ‘Nuff said.
Saturday: Swtbox & Les Enfants Terribles @ Trouw
Influenced by Jazz and Detroit Techno, Sebastien Devaud, aka Agoria, is the latest in a long line of talented artists to emerge from the ever fertile French electronic scene. Agoria’s style is minimalistic, dirty and subversive. His presence in the dance industry has exploded over the past year, thanks to his long and storytelling DJ sets, his connection with Innervisions, full-length album, Fabric compilation and round the world touring. He’ll be playing at some daytime festivals this Saturday, but end up at Trouw for another XL set. Like most of the best DJs out there do. Resident to the club Nuno Dos Santos will be the official host and opener for the evening. If you prefer a harder kind of techno and house, go downstairs to Les Enfants Terribles featuring The Black Dog live, Alex.Do and Jean Pierre Enfant.
