Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow down your options by suggesting some events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. Here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.

Friday: Hifi & 50 Weapons @ Trouw

Hifi is the indie-house night at Trouw hosted by Nuno Dos Santos and Patrice Baumel. ‘A place for amazing music’, as they call it. This Friday they’ve invited crazy ass latino Matias Aguayo together with his crazy ass Russian companion Philipp Gorbachev. If you’ve never experienced Matias live in action before, this would probably be the time to do so. He can easily come dance next to you while playing any random instrument in-between any given crowd. Expect the best of both latin and Russian music. Of course, hosts Nuno Dos Santos and Patrice Bäumel will be present to complete the night. But wait, there’s more. Much more. None other than the underground label 50 Weapons will be throwing their own little party just downstairs at De Verdieping with their main characters Cosmin TRG and A Made Up Sound. Good vibe to start a weekend with.

Saturday: B O D Y C O D E – Carlos Valdes Birthday @ BARKODE

It’s Carlos Valdes’ birthday this Saturday, so the big man himself is forced to celebrate it with an XL edition featuring lots of artist-friends and extra long hours. As it should. During this upcoming edition of BODYCODE you can expect more than twelve hours of house and techno by some of Amsterdam’s finest: Sandrien, Mirella Kroes, Anonym LIVE, Tim Hoeben, Tommy Kornuijt, Viktor Palmer, Stefan Vincent LIVE and Valdes himself to name some. Basically, all I have to say is: support them local rockstars! And bring a cake, or two.

Saturday: James Holden & Warehouse @ Trouw

British techno sorcerer and psychedelic shaman James Holden is a man of many talents: zeitgeist-defining label boss, trend-setting producer, hugely in-demand monster remixer, and last but by no means least, he can count himself amongst that very modern breed of disc jockeys with a special knack for layering seemingly divergent records with an unparalleled musical ear. That said, we’ve all heard he’s been working on a new album which is due to come out in the next few months. Probably one of the most anticipated albums of the year. I’m sure he’ll be providing us with some new tracks this Saturday at electronica temple Trouw, since he’ll be playing ALL NIGHT LONG.

Sunday: Max Cooper Live @ Chicago Social Club

NGHTDVSN’s vision is to bring the best of cutting-edge and innovative music. On the 19th of May NGHTDVSN welcomes Max Cooper to Amsterdam once again for a special party on Whitsun (Pinksteren) with a 2.5 hour live-set. This time he’ll be supported by a selection of his favourite local artists such as Applescal LIVE, Nuno Dos Santos & Terry Toner. Just a few months back Max Cooper joined us in a totally sold out Studio 80 for a legendary 4 hour DJ-set. The amazing producer and performer doesn’t require much elaboration. He’s been featured as one of Resident Advisor’s top live acts of 2012 and Beatport top artists of 2012. He’s basically one of the greatest new talents to emerge in the dance scene the last few years. Being in the neighbourhood and all, NGHTDVSN couldn’t resist throwing another party with our favorite electronic soundscaper. This time around he’ll dive into his own material for a live-set of his emotional driven electronica.

Sunday: Afterzon @ Warehouse and Garden

Finally, the best place for you to end up on this crazy Sunday is the ‘Afterzon‘. Need I remind you that you’re all free on Monday? The official after party for one of this year’s most anticipated outdoor festivals ‘De Zon’ featuring residents for Pleinvrees, Next Monday’s Hangover and BandjeBandje and maybe even some big festival names. The party will consist of an indoor and outdoor area, where there’ll be enough blankets, fire, guitars, jamsessions, and enough space to sit down and watch the stars. Okay, nuff said. Enjoy this long weekend, Amsterdam!
