Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow down your options by suggesting some events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. Here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Friday: Mathias Kaden & Daniel Stefanik @ Trouw
He’s praised for his intuition for the crowd and location, and Kaden proves over and over that he seriously lives for his profession. His sets include sounds ranging from funky, freaky, dashing and dub to slamming, enriched with African and South American percussion. Daniel Stefanik also belongs to the Freude am Tanzen camp, and he’s just as versatile as his colleague, using dub, house, techno, minimal & maximal tones. Together, they’ll be playing b2b all night long, this Friday at Trouw.
Saturday: Henk in de Fabriek @ NDSM Docklands
HENK is known for his backyard festival on the industrial NDSM Wharf. This year he launched a brand new indoor music and art festival, again with only live acts. Together with all the fine artists they stripped the festival concept back to its essence. From there they started building on an experimental factory all winter long. A festival where every live set, art installation, performance and visitor is connected and mutually reinforced; a festival as conceptual artwork. The location is an impressive rough warehouse with riveted steel structures at a height of 24 meters. Be sure to check out Midnight Operator, Kassem Mosse, Function and A Guy Called Gerald. Starts at 12.00, don’t be late.
Saturday: Deep House Amsterdam X UK Sounds 1 Year Anniversary @ Studio K
Finally, Deep House Amsterdam has something to celebrate; one year of existence. The ‘UK Sound’ has done damage to many club floors this last year and its popularity has only grown. Therefore this event will feature your weekend dose of UK house featuring artist like Ejeca, Jonny Cade, Kezla, Oli Furness and New Jack City. Of course, local power from Deep N Disco Boys, Alexander Valentyn, Jimmy van Esch, Dirty Bastards and many more is essential for an event like this. Did I mention they can go on for an extra hour until 6 in the morning? Sounds like a fair deal to me. Enjoy the hangover (Deep House) Amsterdam.
