About the author
Ridz, advertises, produces indie/electronic music, performs throughout the Netherlands but ultimately always ends up at an Amsterdam based ensemble... then he blogs about all these things.

Raw, light, grand, impressive, authentic, industrial and versatile. These are some of the features of the newly renovated warehouse which Amsterdam’s deephouse protagonists STRAF_WERK got its hands on, located on the IJ-shore in northern Amsterdam. After their deephouse closing last year on December 30th, they’re back to surprise you again with a little something you’re not used to. This is not your ordinary party, we’re talking about a twelve hour gathering for both club heads and people that feel like learning more about the art of DJing, dancing, imagery and decor.

De Overkant

Back in the day, the factory engines of STORK and Kromhout ran at full speed. Now the newly renovated location is open to creative parties, companies and other special projects. The customizable size and flexibility of the space makes it suitable for both commercial and cultural events. Of course, the raw and authentic look of the Kromhouthal has been preserved. Organizations such as Over het IJ Festival, Sail, the Canal, Ketel One and the Photo Academy in Amsterdam have already used the Kromhouthal before. None the less, no real authentic party has been thrown there yet.

May 11th, the marathon

May 11th is the kick-off of the event season at this location with STRAF_WERK, a twelve-hour indoor festival with acclaimed international artists in the house scene, including several workshops during the daytime. As always at STRAF_WERK, expect an impressive lineup with the best contemporary house music has to offer.

Art Department

For example, Art Department, a rare act that has conquered the top of the dance industry over the last three years. For the occasion, they’ll be offering us a 3 hour set behind the decks. In case you’ve lived under a rock for the last years, Art Department is the brainchild of Canadian techno/house Legend Kenny Glasgow and Canada’s fastest rising star Jonny White. The concept for Art Department was to create a live DJ/vocal performance based on the new sound they were beginning to produce that would feature Kenny Glasgow’s unique and sublime vocals. It wasn’t long before Damian Lazarus heard what the pair had been working on and immediately offered them a deal with Crosstown Rebels that would include several singles, remixes and a full length album last year.

Clockwork

Clockwork is Francesco Leali and Federico Maccherone. A project born in early 2010 but only officially launched in 2011 with the release of their debut EP “It’s You Again” on the UK based label Hot Creations that gave them the chance to work and perform with some of the most experienced, inspiring and valuable members and events of the electronic music scene today. Their style is a dark breed of house which is noticeably getting deeper and deeper, trying to combine those sounds to more Techno oriented pieces of work.

More of them quality house acts

Furthermore, there is MANIK versus Burnski back2back, a special live act called Voices of Black, Wildkats, and absolute local heroes including Homework and De Sluwe Vos. Just on the other side of the river, best detention ever.
