About the author
I'm a food stylist, like pugs and doomcore and will buy a book twice if I like the edition. My favourite thing about Amsterdam is its windows and a certain house on the gracht where people read and plans are hatched by candlelight.

On Friday 15th March, High T and artists society De Kring plan on throwing the wildest anti-ball of Book Week. You’re invited to dance and otherwise to do as you please as long as you’re dressed in black and gold. And of course, the more gold the merrier.

Why black and gold? The theme for this year’s Book Week is Golden Times, Black Pages, colours symbolic of both the Dutch Golden Age’s golden days as well as those shades that will always remain darker. It represents the VOC’s push for global expansion and wealth as well as the souls of those that were paid for in gold during the slave trade and large scale abuse of indigenous peoples. The theme for the party you want to go to, however, is Golden Delights, Black Edges (it rhymes in Dutch: Gouden Standjes, Zwarte Randjes) which refers more to the golden nuggets of black poetry that’ll be shared amongst the guests.

DJs and a bath of absinthe will last all night.

High T, loved for their monthly parties in the Vondelpark, have arranged for performances by Amsterdam’s most adventurous artists, writers, poets and bands to last until midnight. DJs and a bath of absinthe, however, will last much longer as is to be expected in any high society of intellectuals. Expect an evening of words, silliness and music. And gold. Do come.
