Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow down your options by suggesting some events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. Here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.

Wednesday: 5 Days Off Day 1: Hudson Mohawke, Baauer and more @ Melkweg

Each year, at the beginning of March, groups of musicians and visitors from all over Europe and the United States arrive to Amsterdam to participate in an electronic music festival: 5 Days Off – the first multi-day indoor dance event in the Netherlands. The inauguration night features one of the absolute, and with absolute I mean ridiculously over the top, hypes of the moment: Baauer. Thanks to his Harlem Shake of course, this guy has gone sky high over the past month. Tonight’s your chance to really go mental on this track people, can’t wait to hear the responses on this. Nevertheless, the almighty Hudson Mohawke will be the one headlining this event, since he’s been in the game for a bit longer doing many incredible things around the world. Support comes from Araabmuzik, EPROM, Krampfhaft, Jameszoo, Akkachar, DJ+ en Brutuzz. This and more hosted by Rwina Records en HOAX. We still have a long week to go folks.

Thursday: 5 Days Off Day 2: Audio Culture @ Paradiso

5 Days Off specially caught my attention with the Thursday night, where Audio Culture is bringing over cutting-edge UK house and bass artists Gilles Peterson, Midland, George FitzGerald, Floating Points, Mattikk and Benji B. Especially Midland is one to lookout for this year. His recent track ‘Trace‘, released two weeks ago, is going to bring the guy places he could have only dreamt of. If you’re into energetic, raw, underground, house, this is your night.

Friday: 5 Days Off Day 3: Tale Of Us, Tensnake and more @ Paradiso

This event was supposed to be my favourite night of the week, but unfortunately, headliner Maceo Plex had to cancel for this one. Although the replacement does not match his level, it’s still a night worth going to. Tale of Us has never failed to do a set that’s simply epic in my opinion. Tensnake is of course known for his mega-hit Coma Cat. He’s the man that brought disco and melodic house back to the dance floor a few years ago. This night also features enough local power with some of the best DJs we have around this town such as Job Jobse, Homework, William Kouam Djoko, Detroit Swindle and Chris Julien.

Friday: NGHTDVSN with Max Cooper @ Studio 80

If you want to escape the whole 5 Days Off thing and head into a new ambience, I’d recommend going to the Studio 80 this Friday for Max Cooper. This amazing producer and performer doesn’t require much elaboration. He’s been featured as one of Resident Advisor’s top live act of 2012 and Beatport top artists of 2012. One of the greatest new talents to emerge on the dance scene in the last few years in my opinion. With this said, he’ll be making his debut in Amsterdam’s infamous Studio 80 this Friday with a 4 hour set (!!!). Cool thing about this one is that my own label morgen.am will be supporting this event with residents Some Chemistry (me) opening for Max and La Vondèl (live), No Reset and Maya J rocking the second area of Studio 80. See you up front Amsterdam.

Saturday: 5 Days Off Day 4: Border Community & Notown Records @ Melkweg

Last but not least, we will spend our Saturday night with James Holden’s Border Community and Notown Records at Leidseplein’s Melkweg. The infamous UK-based independent label releases a variety of heavy electronic music. You might have heard producers such as James Holden, Nathan Fake, Extrawelt & Fairmont associated with them in the past. Well, for this night they’ve got James Holden, Nathan Fake, Luke Abbott, Lone, Lukid, Wesley Matsell, Dam Mantle, Hannes Rasmus and Jorn Liefdeshuis all in one place to show us what’s new in the complicated emo-electronica world. Let’s all wonder around with our eyes closed at this event, for the music. Enjoy the hangover.
