Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow down your options by suggesting some events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. Here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.

Friday: Electric Deluxe presents #14 at Klinch @ Melkweg

Yes folks, EDP is back in Amsterdam this Friday, returning to the Melkweg for episode 14 with a few old friends of the show and plenty of new faces, including UK favourites Blawan and RA’s top ten DJ of 2012, Maya Jane Coles. Warming up the Max floor will be Trouw resident and local lady Sandrien, treating the techno heads to an early dose of deep and oldschool flavoured sounds before Belgium’s finest Peter van Hoesen takes up the decks. Speedy J will be manning the Max floor at peak time, but it’s one of today’s most idiosyncratic young producers Blawan who will be driving the party home. Of course, Maya Jane Coles will jump into the evening’s headline slot. Last but not least, one of my favourite producers out there called Redshape will close up shop at the Oude Zaal. This is one of the best line-ups for a regular club night I’ve seen on a poster lately.

Friday: Dimitri & Derrick May @ Air

Two true legends of house music unite this Friday at Air for a night of classic 909 kicks and sweat on the dancefloor. First, Dimitri, once resident DJ at the infamous club Roxy in Amsterdam, nowadays in full effect behind the decks at some of the most important clubs around town. I think every house lover in this town should have experienced one of his sets before moving on with their lives. Secondly, one of Detroit house & techno’s most important protagonists Derrick May, who doesn’t need much further introduction. Along with his high-school friends Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, commonly known as The Belleville Three, May is credited with developing the futuristic variation of house music that would be dubbed “techno”. All of this and more, this Friday, at Air.

Friday: Junction @ Westerunie – Westergasterras – Westerliefde

Junction is all about techno music in Amsterdam. That’s it, no deeper conceptual difficulties attached. Gather some of the best and upcoming techno DJs, put them in a club with a decent sound system and let’s go! For this edition they sail their ship towards the Westerunie, Westergasterras and Westerliefde with none other than Gary Beck and Pär Grindvik supported by residents Kevin Arnemann (live), Kid Mistik (live) and Drum Tone. Gary Back has been at the top of techno bills over the past few years and I’ve been told the Swedish Pär Grindvik is one to look out for. If you’re a techno kind of person, Junction is your place to be this Friday.

Saturday: White Rabbit Invites Off Recordings @ Sugar Factory

These guys have been throwing parties around Amsterdam for the last two years. This Saturday they’ll be taking over Leidseplein’s Sugar Factory again together with one of today’s hottest labels: OFF Recordings. Man, last time was really fun I can tell you. Of course, they plan to bring you the usual dose of visuals, live art, music and decorations again. Which artists are we talking about? Label boss Andre Crom, his label mate Chris James and White Rabbit friends such as No Reset, MAYK and Calmez-Vous. Go support these guys, you won’t regret going to this one. Enjoy the hangover!
