If you’re looking for a street filled with both independent stores and some of the nicest brands, the Utrechtsestraat is the place to go. With the opening of Marc by Marc Jacobs there’s even more reason to go shopping in this area. The brand new –and first Dutch– store was founded by the people behind the neighbouring Centre Neuf, so my expectations were high and I wasn’t surprised by the stylish look and feel of Marc by Marc Jacobs.

Quirky pieces and playful gadgets

The spacious store sells everything the brand has to offer: clothing, bags, jewellery and many other accessories and gadgets. What makes the collection stand out is its mix between candy-coloured, quirky pieces and the elegant overall look it manages to create. Especially the gadgets are hard to resist as they’re playful and original, yet affordable. The kind of must-haves you never knew you wanted until you see them; think of a USB drive in the shape of a pink bunny or a zebra-striped iPhone case. If you truly want to feast your eyes on something, take a look at the bags. Even though they are a bit more expensive, they do make for some seriously good eye candy (or Christmas presents). So, have a look and buy some of the designer pieces.
