About the author
Ridz, advertises, produces indie/electronic music, performs throughout the Netherlands but ultimately always ends up at an Amsterdam based ensemble... then he blogs about all these things.

They’ve thrown events in clubs, boats, warehouses, bunkers, basements, open fields, factories, kitchens and so on. No location is too challenging for these guys. Of course, we’re talking about the Amsterdam based party machine called PLAK. Traditionally, this group of house enthusiasts always celebrates a third Christmas day on the 27th of December, and they will do so again in about a month. This will be their fourth year and running, which gives us the chance to reminisce a bit.

Best of 2012

Over this past year PLAK hosted a record amount of events including the inauguration of De BetonCentrale, ADE’s Moon Harbour showcase, stages at Amsterdam Open Air & Stekkerfest, many sold out Chicago Social Club nights, Varen & Raven and Hannekes Kroon. My personal top 3 being:

De Betoncentrale
Never before has an event like this taken place besides the cranes and machines in North, on the sand, next to the water. This place had been asking for a festival to capture it for a long time. It even reminded us of one of our favourite German festivals.

Tour d’ Amsterdam: Moon Harbour
It has now been a decade since, on the eve of the new millennium, Matthias Tanzmann and André Quaas decided to start their own label Moon Harbour. More than ten years later the label meets Plak and Woodstock ’69 with artists like Tanzmann himself, Luna City Express, Italoboyz and Plak friends Dan Drastic, Ferro, Daan Donk, Bobby Andrews and KlapSandwich amongst others to trash the old theatre and hotel called Odeon. Impressive collaboration, that’s all I can say.

Hannekes Kroon 2012
Finally, for many people the finest Queensday event of the year, Hannekes Kroon. Just as the year before, a (free) day full of quality house music, drinks, relaxing, dancing and of course Amsterdam-based people. Also, one of the last performances for 360 Soundsystem, supplemented by Detroit Swindle, Ferro & Alex Supertramp, Audio Culture and Daniel Zuur & Florian Wolff [live]. Have a look at Daniel Zuur’s official video filmed at Hannekes Kroon.

Plak Derde Kerstdag

As I mentioned, special attention goes out to their last event of the year ‘PLAK Derde Kerstdag‘. This one will be held at the same place as where these guys started out; Club Up & De Kring. Literally, featuring ‘the best of 2012′ artists, strictly friends of the show over the past year. To be specific, Frank Haag made an impression after his closing set at De BetonCentrale, Jan van Kampen was the absolute afterparty emperor at PLAK’s afterhours in Club Up, De Sluwe Vos tore the Chicago Social Club down recently and not to forget their loyal residents Alex Supertramp, Ferro and KlapSandwich. As if that wasn’t enough, add DJ Teams Kris Kross and Partyfeest to De Kring and we have ourselves a serious get-together here. Did we mention it goes on ’till 8 in the morning? I’d recommend getting your energizers together folks.
