About the author
The name's Ciaran, a 27-year-old guy who loves the idea of a discovery, even if it actually isn't one. Among many other Sherlock Holmes adventures, searching for art and music is what keeps me going. High Five!

Browsing around the red light district you might just run into Ultra de la Rue. It’s a new creative space wedged in between the more ‘meaty’ ladies of sexual services. Afaina de Jong and Egberth Thomas opened up shop last July. Setting up an ‘arena for experiments’, they lay their main focus on urban issues and innovation. As Afaina herself puts it, “we’re here to nurture talent”.

Coming from a background of architecture and urban planning, Afaina has made a name for herself as an all-round cultural entrepreneur. Her other half Egberth resides in graphic design, but with a strong passion for good music and photography, he also fills the role of a creative one-man band. But Ultra de la Rue is also just a great shop, selling awesome motivational t-shirts, a well-chosen selection of books and serving one of the best cappuccinos I’ve had in a while. Don’t forget to keep an eye on their list of upcoming events, especially if you fancy a little table tennis throw down!
