Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow down your options by suggesting some events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. Here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Friday: Cartel @ Studio 80
Cartel is a party concept initiated by Rust Roest Producties and TWSTd. They used to party at Leidseplein’s Chicago Social Club, but now moved over to Studio 80 on Rembrandtplein. The formula they work with is putting upcoming DJs and live talents on stage together with renowned (international) artists from the house and tech-house industry. For this occasion, they booked house deep house purist Mark E, a very cool artist if you ask me. Local support comes from Brent Roozendaal, Tijn Benedek, Jan Zuilhof and Cardboard Motel vs. Juri Miralles. Oh yeah, there’s an after-hour at the Amstelhaven as well.
Friday: Pitch Black – Marcus Worgull @ Trouw
Pitch Black means no lights, just music. This time Innervision’s Marcus Worgull will hit the decks all night long. From what I’ve heard, the best phrase to describe his approach to DJing is ‘venue appropriate.’ Over the years he has developed a keen sense for picking the right record at exactly the right time. Whether he’s playing outdoors in the middle of the day, or a peak-time set in the dead of night, his ability to read the crowd is unquestionable. I can recommend this guy to any fan of the deeper spectrum of house music.
Saturday: LOS! Het NazomerSpektakel @ Humberweg 7
LOS! Het NazomerSpektakel is a spectacle with a wink towards the festival season. Think warehouses this time. It will be a proper rave, musically developing from deephouse to techno. Crazy outfits, camping tuxedo’s, swimming suits, ice cream and factor 20 sunscreen bottles are recommended. Expect a healthy dose of props, garlands, confetti, balloons and other surprises. Not to forget, the get-together goes on for twelve hours, so you might want to get your energizers together. On the bill for this one: Dimitri Kneppers, Einmusik, Nakadia, Paul Hazendonk, Prosper Rek, De Crux, Misja Impossible & Delatouffe and many more.
Saturday: Swtbox @ Trouw
SWTBOX is the clubnight of Trouw resident Nuno Dos Santos. SWTBOX is about creating a home for all those who love to give 100% on the dance floor, all night long. For those who follow their legs and hips instead of trendy music blogs. For those who come to a club in order to give, not take. For those who love to lose themselves in a sensory overload of mind-bending sounds, strobes, sweat, bodies and the surreal visuals of VJ Arnout Hulskamp. Full throttle. SWTBOX, this time featuring Berlin protagonists Stefan Goldmann (live) and Hrdvsion (live), supported by the curator himself Nuno dos Santos.
We figured it was about time to give away 2×2 tickets again. Comment your favourite Stefan Goldmann, Hrdvsion or Nuno Dos Santos track on this post on Facebook to win them.
Sunday: Trouw op Zondag: Daphni aka Caribou @ Trouw
Finally, it’s time for Trouw op Zondag again, still one of my favourite club concepts in town! You can grab a bite or do a dance with a crowd that’s a mix of people freshly off the boat and others who’ve been raving for the last 12 hours. This time they invited Caribou frontman Daphni to play, this probably has to do with the fact that his band is supporting Radiohead earlier on the night. Friends of the club Job Jobse and Luc Mast will be there to support this event with their mixing skills. Don’t go too crazy though, next week is ADE.
