Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow down your options by suggesting some events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. Here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Thursday: Cable – 1 Year Anniversary @ Melkweg
Cable has manifested itself as your best option on a Thursday night if you’re into dub and bass-driven music throughout the past year. This week Cable actually exists one year, and of course they are celebrating it with an extra special edition featuring ALL your local dub heroes such as Gomes, Brutuzz, Akkachar, Guerilla Speakerz, Vic Crezee, Mudde, Presk, Piro, DJ+ and many many more! Did I mention it’s only 5 euros? No membership needed!
Friday: PUP: The Artifest @ Paradiso
Now PUP has been doing lots of cultural stuff around town the past year, but I don’t think they’ve thrown such an XL party at a venue like Paradiso. This Friday PUP has put together The Artifest. A cultural festival where they’ll combine all the best things in life and present them to you in nine hours of craziness in Amsterdam’s pop temple. A chance to get inspired, to meet the young and promising creative crowd of the future, and to let go of that daily routine. Every area will be filled with creative output. From night exhibitions to private dining, from spoken word to high-brow performances. Cabaret, visual projections and fashion pop-up stores to name some. On the bill: Benoit & Sergio (live), Infinity Ink, MANIK, Burnski, Terry Toner, Victor Coral and lots of other cool stuff.
Friday: Future Disco @ AIR
This Friday the notorious Future Disco concept is hitting Amsterdam after conquering metropoles like London and Ibiza. For this particular debut AIR invited disco and deephouse legends Greg Wilson and The Revenge from the UK to show us why disco is the music that reminds you of the future. Supporting artists are Sean Brosnan (UK) and local hero Prunk.
Saturday: Hifi @ Trouw
Hifi is Trouw’s indie club night. For this edition, resident Nuno Dos Santos invited Marbert Rocel, a threesome from Leipzig, bringing a mix of jazz, electro and house to the dance floor. Their new album ‘Small Hours’ just came out a few months ago. If you missed them at Pitch festival in July, then you might want to go check it out. Especially if you’re into live music versus electronica cross-overs. Of course Nuno Dos Santos and Patrice Bäumel will be present to open and end the show.
