Remember back in the day when your parents took you to the science museum? Thinking back about that right now, I’m already getting pumped up. It was the coolest playground ever, and without even realizing it, you were learning while playing. Memories of making gigantic bubbles, building dams in miniature waterworks and hooking up some wires to a battery to make a string of bulbs light up. Oh the pure awesomeness of it all!
Make psychedelic films of insects with hi-speed cameras.
Discovery Festival is here to bring that all back to you. This year’s theme is Do-It-Yourself. Expect live science experiments, interactive installations, D.I.Y. art and not to mention a chance to party ‘till late at Nemo. One of the coolest things that caught my eye on the long list of endless possibilities: making psychedelic films of insects with hi-speed cameras.
After six successful editions, the festival has expanded to two extra cities: Rotterdam and Eindhoven. The organizers have also called in the help of Soundlings, a collective of composers and hackers. In each city they will base one musician and the three of them will then simultaneously create a composition in real-time. Does it get any better?
Well yes, it does. They’ve invited a whole array of DJs and musicians to entertain you throughout the night. The Silhouettes, an indie band with a Tarantino-twang. Back from Berlin is Palmbomen with his ADE test-run. Future-trooper ONRA is also going to be there to make his mark with his 1980 vs. 2040 jams.
