About the author
Born and raised in Amsterdam, lives to dance and dances to live on electronic music, has a small vinyl addiction, appreciates a little sarcasm now and then, thinks musicals are annoying and loves those moments where you lose track of time completely.

Most of you probably know Ruigoord because of its legendary and out of control parties. There’s just something about raving in an abandoned church. What people tend to forget is that Ruigoord is a village full of whimsical individuals that combine art and life into an extraordinary experiment, or a contemporary artist colony as they like to call it. Last weekend, and this upcoming weekend Ruigoord will open its ateliers for visitors. Believe me, you want to see this.

exchange, shared experiences, expression, and ecstasy

When I was about 13 years old (and still innocent and sweet), my parents took me to one of the Open Atelier weekends. I remember finding it extremely interesting but also a little creepy. There’s something intriguing about Ruigoord. They call themselves a green oasis in a world where everything seems to get more egocentric and materialistic. They are an idealistic and idyllic haven where artists can work on their creations. The emphasis, however, lies on joint projects. The need to exchange, to share experiences, expression, and ecstasy is fulfilled in this village.

I strongly recommend to go to Ruigoord and experience it by daylight for a change. Walk around, lounge, look at art, hang out with the Ruigoord residents, and have a good time!
