About the author
Hi, I'm Sophia, a fiery redhead in the wondrous world of Amsterdam. I find my joy in singing, good food, cocktails, cute hidden places in our city and talking to crazy, inspiring and creative people.

A closet full of clothes and nothing to wear? No money to buy new outfits? No worries. This Sunday Krijg de Kleren! will host the 9th edition of one of Amsterdam’s biggest and most successful clothing exchange events. No dusty anti-fashion at Krijg de Kleren!. Expect fashionably bad buys, which just might suit you perfectly.

Swap the heat wave away

All you have to do is clean out your own closet. Bring that skirt you never wear because you think it’s actually a little too short on you, or those jeans you never wear because they’re too wide. You can take home as many garments as you brought in. After the quality of your garments has been checked, you can go and shop! This edition’s theme is Heat Wave, so bring some of your best summer garments.

We believe people consume too much.

The people behind Krijg de Kleren!, mostly girls, say they started organizing the event simply because it didn’t exist yet. Instead of trading clothes with only your best friends, why not invite every fashionable girl in all of Amsterdam? But it’s not just fun and games. There’s a philosophy behind Krijg de Kleren!: “We believe people consume too much. We want to raise awareness and make this way of shopping (without spending) known among a bigger audience.”

I totally agree. What better way to score some new outfits while sparing your wallet, right? And there’s more. Think you look a little plain in your new smashing outfit? Go and get a haircut, buy some handmade jewellery, drink, eat, do a little dance to the DJ’s music or discover new, young designers. And when the shopping is done, Roest will provide a BBQ.
