Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow down your options by suggesting some events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. Here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Thursday: Magneetbar Reunion @ Paradiso
The infamous chaos of the one and only Magneetbar is back, for one night only. That’s right, the exciting Lowlands tent is moving to our pop temple called Paradiso. One, to relive the old days with crazy decors and many performances by friends and residents to the Magneetbar. Also, expect the premiere of their documentary ‘De Magneetbar’ and be the first to hear the program for Magneet Festival 2012. In case you’ve never been to Lowlands, or Magneet Festival, it’s basically an overdose of creative performances that will surely make you forget about your daily jobs and routines. I leave you with the legendary surprise act by the Kooks at the Magneetbar a few years ago.
Friday: Stekkerfest Pre-party @ Chicago Social Club
Although Stekkerfest is an Utrecht based initiative, it still is a festival that intrigues me. Due to their honest approach and their well thought out niche programming. To gain some buzz around this town, their throwing a smaller get-together this Friday at the one and only hipster palace Chicago Social Club. Plus, anybody with a Stekkerfest 2012 ticket in their pocket, gets to enjoy this night for free! And I have to tell you the line-up for their pre-party ain’t bad at all featuring Junior Boys (Dj Set), Miss Melera, Pitto (Live), Lustige Lola & Weltschmerz, Pretty Young Trouble, Mr Fox, Kokoko and Datasyb.
Friday: Goldfish Outdoor (Official After Party) @ Studio 80
Goldfish Outdoor is supposed to be a small and intimate festival with a maximum of 5.000 visitors and a varied lineup based around the main act Goldfish. Goldfish is a pretty popular act, so this outdoor thing sold out. No worries though, the true weekend warrios can still join in on the fun at the official after party featuring some pretty big names that will also play at this outdoor event as Jimpster, Aki Bergen, Proper rek, Sjap Cousteau and some other ‘special guests..’. Not bad at all if you ask me, personally I’d only go for the sake of seeing Jimpster and Aki Bergen which are both really cool producers and DJs. Get home safe Amsterdam.
Saturday: Indigo Aera & Proper’s Cult @ Trouw
Indigo Aera is an Amsterdam based label run by Jasper Wolff and Maarten Mittendorff. They release detroit oriented techno focussing on dancefloors but also paying attention to the more soundscape side of electronic music. They tend to put out honest and pure techno. For this label showcase they invited none other than the legendary Steve Rachmad, who actually recently released a remix on this label. Speaking of releases, down beneath, at De Verdieping, Amsterdam’s cult hero San Proper will be throwing a special release party for his new album ‘Animal’. Proper will actually be performing both a live show and a DJ set, accompanied by his friend Zip who he invited to play for this special occasion. Sounds like a right party to get really wasted at.
