About the author
Born and raised in Amsterdam, lives to dance and dances to live on electronic music, has a small vinyl addiction, appreciates a little sarcasm now and then, thinks musicals are annoying and loves those moments where you lose track of time completely.

That’s right, you’ve read it correctly. Matthew Dear is coming to town, on May 2nd to be precise. I know that’s still far away, but I bought my ticket as soon as the pre-sale started (which was last week) because I would literally cry if I missed this. I love artists that can’t be classified in one genre, and Matthew is a perfect example of this. He’s a DJ, dance-music producer, experimental pop artist and bandleader in one, and has three other diverse aliases (Audion, False, and Jabberjaw).

On repeat

Matthew also co-founded his own record label called Ghostly International. His debut Leave Luck to Heaven was already great in 2003 and consisted out of wickedly funky minimal techn-house. His 4th album Black City, which was released in 2010, has a dark and playful sound and is even better. I normally never buy CD’s because downloading is just too easy, but I bought Black City. That’s got to count for something, right? Oh, and believe me, it’s on repeat. You do not want to miss this, trust me!
