Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow down your options by suggesting some events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. Here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Friday: Dimitri & Fairmont @ Air
Definitely a night for music lovers! House-veteran and local legend Dimitri will bring us one of his infamous long sets. For the occasion he is accompanied by a performance from Canada’s Border Community protagonist Fairmont, with a very special and visually innovating live set. In support these two heroes, our friend Olivier Weiter will open and spice things up during the first two and a half hours. This night will be all about beats, melodies and bass lines.
Friday: Linke Soep – Formatik Label Night @ Studio80
I like label nights, because it’s nice to understand what sound a label wants to represent. This is also part of what makes the yearly Amsterdam Dance Event so interesting. Obviously, it has to be a label that stands for quality. Lately, Formatik has been in the spotlights due to their success with German dou Format:B, an act of uncompromising contemporary techno music. I really enjoy hearing their song Liquid (feat. Fran) towards the end of the night at a good club. Other acts on the bill this night are Convex Shape (DE), Hayte Bouchier B2B Men in Trees (NL/DE), Vincent van Nimwegen and Dik&Hard. I say fist pump feast!
Friday: Drukpers @ Trouw
Drukpers, one of Trouw’s weapons of musical guidance will bring us some talented German disk-jockeys this Friday: Lawrence and Map.ache. Lawrence (real name Peter M. Kersten) co-runs the Kompakt-affiliated Dial label out of Hamburg, Germany. His productions can be described as a mixture of house, minimal techno and futuristic experimental pieces beyond that. Map.ache on the other hand is a Nachtdigital regular (which is also closely linked with Dial of course). Drukpers resident Chris Helt completes the night. I think this is one of those club nights that could turn out to be surprisingly interesting, especially for DJ scouts around Amsterdam.
Saturday: Voidd – Wildlife Legends @ Studio 80
Oh yeah, without a doubt the most interesting party on Saturday is Voidd’s Wildlife Legends. Why? Well for starters Crosstown Rebels and Mobilee A-list artists will be there for guidance from the DJ booth throughout the night. Yes, non other than Berghain regulars Subb-an and Sebo K, with support by Eric de Man, Rik Woldring and Steady Douglas. Can’t miss out with these guys behind the decks. I say see you up front.
Saturday: Night Flight X Boston Strip – John Heckle, Dmx Krew – Live @ Club Up @ Club Up
Lastly, if you’re a more into house, dubstep, dancehall & garage music, you might want to consider a different kind of party. It’s time for another co-production brought to you by Night Flight and Boston Strip. They’re taking over De Kring & Club Up and inviting none other than UK based John Heckle for a DJ set and DMX Krew LIVE. Club Up (w/ John Heckle & DMX Krew) is hosted by Night Flight and its resident DJs Berend Kirch & Jeroen Kok. De Kring is hosted by Boston Strip and its resident DJs Faber, Mudde, Ruben X, DDK, Alex Charry & Lauraa. Have a good night (flight)!
