You’re probably familiar with Indievloot; they provide super cheap tickets for indie gigs in Paradiso, and also present a monthly show of their own in the pop temple. These nights feature several upcoming indie acts, covering a wide variety of interpretations of the genre. A great night to get your monthly fix of surprising and exciting new music, and reliable source for many a discovery.
The next edition, this Wednesday, presents seven bands that will be fighting for your attention. They all have something special in a completely different way, and I’m going to let my mood at the moment decide what I want to see. The big room hosts noise-rockers Cymbals Eat Guitars, the catchy pop of School is Cool and my personal dreamy favourite Still Corners, while the upstairs will be rocked by Jape, New Build, Marcus Foster and Foy Vance.
So, what to see?
If you’re in a romantic or mildly psychedelic mood I recommend Still Corners and Jape. They will gently take you on a soothing dream ride along beautiful soundscapes and entrancing chants, and are sure to leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside.
On the other hand, if you already feel good and want to swing your hips you might prefer School is Cool’s catchy choruses and the fresh electronics of New Build. Both good choices for lifting your spirits even higher and keeping that smile on your face.
Lastly, if you’re feeling melancholic and heavyhearted or just love the feeling of being pulled into bittersweet self-pity then the haunting voice of Marcus Foster and Foy Vance’s blues and soul are definitely for you. They’ll make you feel the love you lost when you were sixteen like it happened yesterday, but give you new hope for tomorrow at the same time.
