Enter the Void and claim your art

About the author
The name's Ciaran, a 27-year-old guy who loves the idea of a discovery, even if it actually isn't one. Among many other Sherlock Holmes adventures, searching for art and music is what keeps me going. High Five!

Lately I’ve been getting the idea that there are more and more art galleries opening up around town. Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily. The ones I’ve been to are approaching the concept in the right way. Affordable art by young and upcoming artists with a variation of disciplines seems to be the way to go. This also happens to be the case with the newest kid on the block: Void.

Nothing exists except atoms & empty space – everything else is opinion.

Last week they officially opened their doors for the first time. And with a bang I can tell you! The place was packed from the get-go. It’s a well-designed split-level gallery space with a fresh clean-cut look. Right in the middle of the Pijp, the location is also spot-on. With a good variety of work on show it was a matter of browsing around, choosing your favourites and then grabbing a beer to mingle out on the street.

Void themselves say that they are “a place for artists who are looking for a different approach and art buyers.” For me, this means no more elitist bullshit surrounding the whole concept of buying and collecting art. But making art something fun without having to take out a loan. Their whole vision is based on ‘slow art’. So whether it’s about meeting interesting people, admiring art or buying art, at Void there is no need to rush.

If you feel like you’ve missed out, don’t. Every first Friday of the month Void will be organizing a new get-together with new works on show and different artists to be hailed. And don’t forget their other new concept, Coffee Saturday. I’ll let you figure that one out by yourself.
