As a blogger, musician, interviewer, DJ, producer and event promoter it’s pretty obvious I’m one of the billion people living in a remix or crossover era. With this said, it’s also very noticeable that different forms of art are interconnecting with each other in live events and festivals nowadays. Just a few days ago, I got the chance to experience an old German horror film called Das Kabinet des Dr. Caligari with live music being played by Innervisions protagonists Henrik Schwarz & Âme. Well, imagine a whole festival dedicated to these films vs. live music collabs, yes, the Rocket Cinema Festival.
On Friday the third edition of Paradiso’s Rocket Cinema Festival will kick off, this time with a new theme: adventure. DJs, musicians, VJs, dancers and others sorts of theatrical artists are invited to write and perform a new soundtrack for classic films at surprising locations through Amsterdam. Think planetariums and old churches. The festival goes on until the 26th of November. One of the highlights: during Halloween, the Old Church (Oude Kerk) will transform into a Gothic monster feast with films like the original version of King Kong, accompanied by music of DJ duo Homework. Have a look to the entire program to see where your interest takes you.
Finally, to give you a piece of cultural incentive, we’re offering 2×2 tickets to go see the special Halloween/King Kong/Homework performance on October 31st at Amsterdam’s Oude Kerk! Comment on this post on Facebook with the film you think would fit a renewed soundtrack nest, to win a ticket for you and a friend.
I leave you with some footage of last years’ summer Rocket Cinema edition at Tolhuistuin.
