About the author
Ridz, advertises, produces indie/electronic music, performs throughout the Netherlands but ultimately always ends up at an Amsterdam based ensemble... then he blogs about all these things.

The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) is the gateway to the international electronic music scene. As Europe’s leading electronic music conference and the world’s biggest club festival, it’s the perfect time and place to meet up with international music minds, get introduced to an international audience and connect with new music, new trends and new people.

The Amsterdam Dance Event 2011 runs from 19th to 22nd October, from Wednesday to Sunday, so this whole of my weekly night-life guide will be all about this year’s ADE edition. If you’re in the possession of a fancy all-access wristband, we made a short list of the best parties to generate a massive hangover that will last you all week. If you don’t have an all-access ticket, we’ve added some kick-ass alternatives to the sold out events. Prepare! Buy your anti hangover supplies in time!

Wednesday: Planet E 20th Anniversary @ Melkweg

On the opening night of ADE, Carl Craig invites you to celebrate his label’s 20th anniversary. Not only is he inviting an amazing group of people to join him on stage for the opening night of ADE, he will be doing a very special live set for the first time in Amsterdam together with dub/techno-pioneer Moritz von Oswald and piano superstar Francesco Tristano. Besides this special jazz/techno orientated performance, Caribou, Kenny Larkin (live), Kyle Hall, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Dimitri Kneppers and protagonists of the innovative Hessle Audio-label will shine on the stages of Leidseplein’s Melkweg. Perfect beginning for a looong weekend.

Wanna join in on this ADE opening? Comment with your favourite Planet E related song on this post on Facebook and we might give you 2×2 tickets for this event! BAM!

* Wednesday’s alternative:

Thursday: A Night With Innervisions @ Trouw

I don’t think this party needs any introductions. Innervisions is bigger than ever, it has become the absolute avant garde of contemporary German electronic music. With its three protagonists Dixon, Henrik Schwartz and Âme present, this events can never go wrong. This is ADE we’re speaking of though, so they’ve invited a few special guests to join the party: Prins Thomas and & Gerd Janson. It ain’t no surprise that this has been sold out for a while, luckily Trouw has around 300 tickets available at the door. Go early.

* Thursday’s alternatives:

  • Diynamic & Rejected @ Studio 80 feat. Solomun, Joris Voorn, Maya Jane Coles, Stimming, H.O.S.H., David August & Edwin Oosterwal (tickets available again after 4am at the door).
  • Kompakt showcase @ Melkweg feat. Michael Mayer, WhoMadeWho, John Tejada, Matias Aguayo & more.
  • Laurent Garnier presents LBS feat. Scan X & Benjamin Rippert @ Paradiso.
  • ON presents ADE Special feat. Function, Sigha, Audio Injection-Truncate @ Transformatorhuis, Westergas. For all you house purists.
  • KLANG! feat. Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Nick Curly, Warren Fellow, Jeff Moore, Arjuna Schiks and more @ Studio K.
  • CIRCOLOCO The Next Level – ADE Special feat. Seth Troxler, Matthias Tanzmann, Davide Squillace, Ellen Allien, Tale Of Us and many more @ Westerunie.

I really need to clone myself..

Friday: VRIJ ADE Weekender @ Busterminal Museumplein

Strange locations and good line-ups are key factors for successful events nowadays, if you ask me. VRIJ managed to pull a new event out of their sleeves for the Friday afternoon featuring Hernan Cattaneo, Eelke Kleijn, Juan Sanchez, Miss Melera and Applescal (live). Party starts at 5pm, ends at 1am and continues the next afternoon with Steve Lawler, M.A.N.D.Y. and Deetron amongst others. What to do afterwards? See the alternatives below.

* Friday’s alternatives:

Saturday: Systematic Recordings @ Chicago Social Club

Yes, yes, on Saturday we will be co-hosting the 2nd room of Marc Romboy’s Systematic Recordings showcase together with Misc Agency. Featuring Marc himself, Christian Smith, Max Cooper (live), KiNK (live), Ripperton (live), Phonique, Gorge, Namito and Terry Toner. Plus, this will be an ADE debut for Next Monday’s Hangover residents Some Chemistry and Troeble! Major line-up, party goes on untill 8am, well worth your money.

* Saturday’s alternatives:

  • RA X feat. X?, Agoria, Donato Dozzy, Matt Tolfrey, Robag Wruhme & 360 Soundsystem @ Trouw. Last presale available at Resident Advisor.
  • Objectivity Label Night feat. Theo Parrish, Dennis Ferrer, The Martinez Brothers, Andre Hommen, Makam, a surprise act from Detroit and the whole Dekmantel crew @ MC Theater, Westergasterrein. House purism to the max.

Sunday: Trouw Op Zondag – ADE Residents Special @ Trouw

Like the year before, Trouw comes with the one and only closing party for ADE that counts in town. Just check out the bill: Visionquest feat. Seth Troxler, Shaun Reeves & Ryan Crosson (Visionquest, London/Berlin), Soul Clap (Wolf+Lamb, Boston), Cassy (Cocoon, Amsterdam), Melon (Trouw, Amsterdam), San Proper, (Trouw, Amsterdam), Boris Werner & William Kouam Djoko (Trouw, Amsterdam), Sandrien (Trouw, Amsterdam), Patrice Bäumel (Trouw, Amsterdam).
