This Friday sees Berliner-by-choice and resident DJ of the legendary Panorama Bar Prosumer pay a visit to Amsterdam. As a part of the Berghain family, maybe the worlds most illustrious club, Prosumer has been making a name for himself with releases on the Berghain related Ostgut label and by touring around the world. We spoke with him about Amsterdam and his music.

Achim, you’ve been to Amsterdam before and playing at Studio 80 won’t be a first time for you; are you looking forward to this weekend? Do you have any particular connection with Amsterdam?
It will be good to be back, I am looking forward to playing a lot since the sound system used to be one of my favourites in the world, I hope that has not changed.
My first love is from Amsterdam, so there is a emotional connection and still a big soft spot. I have fond memories of Nam Kee, of cycling along the grachten and of course of good parties. Plus you do the best hangover food, pannenkoeken met spek en stroop.
You’ve played at so many events by now, in places all over the world. What do you think are key elements for the perfect party?
A good sound system, people who like to party and are open and ready to fall into the night. And music you would not want to live without.
You are part of the Ostgut label and a resident of the Panorama Bar. How did this come to be?
I was extremely lucky and had my first gig at panorama bar through a series of coincidences. And they seemed to like what i did, so i was allowed to stay. Releasing on the label was a logical progression, it made sense to keep it in the family.

What would you say has been your biggest accomplishment up to now?
Staying true to myself and sane in a crazy world.
What are your plans for the near future? Where are you taking Prosumer next?
I am not much of a planner, I just follow my guts and instincts. I recently did vocals for a – lets call it: disco extravaganza, guess that will still be coming out this year.
What was your latest genius discovery that you can share (artist or track)?
Floating Points – Danger. It bored me when I heard it coming out of the speakers of a laptop. When I heard it on a system, it blew me away.
Any colleague DJ/producers you can specifically appreciate or relate to?
Of course, people like Tama Sumo, Soundstream, Levon Vincent. The people who live with passion for the music.
Lastly, for any aspiring electronic producers out there craving for a career like yours: what advice do you have for them if they want to make it in the dance industry?
If it is about making it in the industry: You might consider doing something else. Otherwise: put your love and passion into what you care about.

I had the honour of having a short chat with Motor City Drum Ensemble yesterday. For those not familiar with Motor City Drum Ensemble, this name must immediately make you think of Detroit, after which your first instinct would probably be that you were dealing with a collective of pioneers from this famous music city. All wrong. (..more)
Guest of Honour: Backstage with Kollektiv Turmstrasse
Two pairs of Converse sneakers, a decade-long friendship and a very sincere poetic affinity for techno. That’s how Christian and Nico from Kollektiv Turmstrasse found themselves turning tables in brimful clubs, just like they did last Saturday in Studio 80. Right before their show, I met them backstage and felt like I was hanging out with my former high school buddies who love to talk about everything under the sun while forgetting that they actually happened to become famous throughout the years.
