Another round of Sonic Soirée this week, the mini festival that presents upcoming Flemish and Dutch indie bands to Amsterdam’s interested. It’s located in the intimate setting of De Brakke Grond and I’ve both written about (see bottom of article) and attended a few previous editions. If you’re interested in a relaxed evening filled with new pop, folk and blues, go check this out tomorrow night! I listed some information about this edition’s programme below.
Say Say (B)
“Two microphones, a suitcase full of electronics and a guitar is all the young ladies of
Say Say need to thrill us with their unpretentious electro-pop. Often understated and fragile, but always followed by a climax when everything lets rip. Or: a raised middle finger in a snowy landscape, as someone appropriately commented on Flemish Radio 1.”
Uinko Eerenstein (NL)
“A warm welcome to one of the most charming troubadours of the Low Countries:
Uinko Eerenstein. His dark and warm voice in addition to his funny and deadly honest lyrics guarantee a good dosage of honey for the soul. Jaap Fischer and Leonard Cohen shake hands and nod delightedly.”
Sunday Bell Ringers (B)
“Sunday Bell Ringers presented its debut album in the AB in Brussels – and a week later at the Sonic Soirée. Their big, rousing songs and majestic part-song are reminiscent of Arcade Fire: a comparison that isn’t even that far-fetched.”
