Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Thursday to Saturday: Off Centre @ Melkweg, WesterUnie & Sugar Factory
I remember being at the Melkweg in the summer of 2010 and seeing The Field live, followed by a Gui Boratto performance. The night ended with the collaboration of Jesse Rose and none other than Henrik Schwarz: Black Rose. Man, was this mini-festival progressive. Luckily, Off Centre continued the saga and this time around they invited a few headliners to shine, such as The Gaslamp Killer, Jamie Woon, Jamie XX, Nathan Fake, Robert Hood, Rustie and Africa Hitech. Unfortunately the first two cancelled, but this festival is about discovering the next big cross-over artist and getting in touch with the niche crowds. For a full line-up, locations and tickets visit their website.Friday: Ida Engberg & Secret Cinema @ AIR
Being the resident Djane in Stockholm’s legendary Cocktail Club, Ida worked out the sophisticated style of her DJ sets for years, “I play deep house, tech house, funky techno, some minimal and sometimes some electro. Everything that touches my soul basically. I’ll always keep on playing underground electronic dance music.“ Not just a pretty face as she produced the original mix of club anthem Disco Volante. Just last week, Engberg made a brand new contribution to Adam Beyer’s Drumcode label podcast series, which works nicely as a warm-up for Friday night’s techno party. Supporting the lady is mister powerful techno Secret Cinema and local hero Terry Toner. Looking forward to the photography.Friday: Schmeck Pony – Sputnik Spacers @ Westerunie
I’m not going to elaborate too much on this one, just check out the variety of international names: Pig&Dan (ES), Marcus Meinhardt (DE), Oliver Schories Live (DE), Solee (DE), Dosem (ES), Marco Effe (IT), Kabale und Liebe b2b Lauhaus and many more local gentlemen to support the cause. The guys behind Schmeck Pony are doing well, it’s always pleasant to have a fresh and dedicated group of dance protagonists in town. If I can give you one tip, go check out Oliver Schories, you’ll be hearing more of this guy in the near future. Did I mention the event goes on ’till 7 in the morning?Friday: We Are E & Darko Esser Present: Balans with DVS1 @ Studio 80
We Are E & Darko Esser collaborate on label, podcast and event discovering the Balans. Following their first events, where Chris Liebing featured as special guest in two of Holland’s most renowned clubs, We Are E now presents another techno fuelled night. This time it’s all about Dutch producer Darko Esser, his newly founded imprint Balans and a unique performance by techno prodigy DVS1. What does Balans stand for? Raw talent combined with high quality experience. Supporting DJs: Steven Pieters and Pitto. Check out the latest Balans podcast to get an idea. See you up front!Saturday: Deep Disco Device invites Miss Melera + Camiel Daamen @ Secret Location
Another fresh group in town are the boys behind Chasing the Hihat. They set up a very raw and underground festival this past summer called KRAK Festival. This time they decided to throw another 24 hour (!) event. For the occasion they invited deep house queen Miss Melera and rising producer Camiel Daamen (live). Party starts at 3 in the afternoon and ends at 3 in the afternoon…the next day. Location remains undisclosed, but it won’t be too far from Central Station and there will be a roof on top of your heads. For the full line-up filled with local heroes check their event page.Saturday: Trouwe Honden @ Trouw
Finally, a free party concept dedicated to the die-hard Trouw supporters where Superpitcher, Mark E and 360 stand behind the decks. If you find yourself dancing on Trouw’s dance floor every weekend, it might be smart for your pocket to become a member and enjoy a few Trouwe Honden nights throughout the year for free. If you’re not familiar with an upcoming producer like Mark E, just listen to his latest anthem. You might want to take advantage of this. Have a good weekend.Sharing is caring!
