Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Thursday: Cassette Collectief @ Club Up
Aloha! Our good friends of Cassette Collectief are back in Club Up, right after the festival season and right before the official start of the weekend. Of course, they’ll be sticking to what they’re good at: creating some sort of authentic vibe by mixing jazz, lots of bass and deep house music. Provided by Olff, Bert de Rooij, Simon Weiss and birthday boy Tick Nopp. You’ll be hearing more from these guys later in the weekend, but definitely see you on Thursday.Friday: Dekmantel Special – Mathew Jonson x Kerri Chandler @ Paradiso
The house purists of Amsterdam have put together another very tasty event for us this Friday. None other than Mathew Jonson, one of my all-time favourite DJ/producers, is doing his live thing at pop temple Paradiso. More than a year ago I wrote a short manifesto with five very rational motives to go see the guy. But that ain’t all my friends, Kerri ‘Kaoz’ Chandler, one of deep house music’s originators, will be injecting soul into the night just as he has done since the early nineties with a three hour set (!!). And of course, Dekmantel’s own Soundsystem will be joining the party as well, featuring Casper Tielrooij, Jan van Kampen & Thomas Martojo. Don’t forget to run up and down to the remaining areas cause there will be many more surprises waiting for you.Saturday: Boycott – 2 Year Anniversary @ Club Up & De Kring
Over the past year I haven’t really written about Boycott that much, but Guerilla Speakerz, the captains of the Boycott ship, have earned a proper celebration this Saturday. For two years this party has been representing a particular breed of club music that hasn’t been recognized broadly enough. Expect a full range of electronic dubby rhythmic tunes trampling your ears provided by genre protagonists WOZ (UK), Steve Boomselector (UK garage veteran), The Bobby6Killers and Architects. Also, local heroes like Homework, Bas Amro and ONNO will be supporting the Boycott anniversary at De Kring. Smells like hangover to me.Sunday: Het Alternatief @ Amsterdam Roest CANCELLED
As my fellow writer Ciaran put it: “by now most of our readers probably know Amsterdam Roest.” They’ve been introducing some really good things over the summer and added some nice new elements to the Amsterdam scene. Also, most of our readers have probably heard of Cassette Collectief. Together they have set-up a wonderful Sunday with laser gaming, poetry by Geheimschrijvers, a flea market including some designer clothing by Tegendraads and some interactive projects by Live Build. If you’re looking for some music above all, Brent Roozendaal, Lustige Lola and of course all the Cassette residents will be present amongst others. Did I mention it’s free? Lastly, don’t forget to sneak a peek at the photography expo where you can admire the work of Overdose’s own superstar photography team Tamar and Rutger. Cheers.Sharing is caring!
