Summer seems to be over again and more music festivals is probably the last thing on your mind right now. Dekmantel is already planning ahead though, and with the announcement of the second edition of the indoor ‘Het Kabinet’ festival in November today you should grab your agenda too. The festival runs for three days this year; one more than during last years debut.
The only gig of The Field’s new album tour in Amsterdam on Thursday, an all-star UK bass and dubstep line-up on Friday, and a more traditional house and techno evening on Saturday featuring a very rare gig by sound artists Matthew Herbert.
This Matthew Herbert is a true cult legend and a pioneer in using home record sound effects in music. His latest project is quite bizarre and intriguing one. He followed a pig on a farm and recorded samples of it’s entire life, from birth ’till slaughter, after which he used these sounds in the concept album ‘PIG’. Ready to leave your comfort zone?
IDFA, FOAM & NIMk
Next to all the musical fanfare, there is a lot more to discover and experience at Het Kabinet. Photography museum FOAM, media art institute NIMk and documentary festival IDFA will be contributing to the program with a yet to be revealed contribution, but these names are always a guarantee for quality.
