NIMK presents The Art of Hacking and Prologue

About the author
Art director, designer and photographer in the virtual world. What's in a name.

‘The Art of Hacking’ exhibition at the Dutch institute for media arts (NIMk, formerly Montevideo) is not about the kind of hacking you hear about in the news. It does not refer to the screw-ups of Diginotar, or to Anonymous using hacking as a new political weapon. It is more focused on hacking in a broader sense, changing your society, getting past the official systems and editing them. Kind of like most of us in Amsterdam tend to do anyway; bending and changing the rules.

The art of hacking

The exhibition about hacking contains bosses like Harmen den Hoop (see here) and the Yes-Men who are fixing the world all over the place.

Useless Action – Harmen de Hoop

The shown works are from more mainstream artists like mentioned above but there is also room for crazy, more underground guys like Cornelia Sollfrank and Ubermorgen.com

The Prologue

At the same time I will also open up my own exhibition at NiMK called ‘The Prologue’. Besides art directing, designing and of course writing for Overdose, I also photograph in the virtual world of computer games. I see the worlds of Black Ops, Modern Warfare, GTA4 etc. as the new public spaces of contemporary society. My work has caused quite a storm online from BBC to Gizmodo. I will be showing a dozen photographs; some known ones and some never shown before. You are more than welcome to come check it out.

The end of the virtual world 2, Robert Overweg, Left 4 Dead 2.

So, it’s double the trouble, double the fun and double the alcohol. Come check out the opening, if you can’t… drop by later on. It’s worth the visit. Drop me a line if you want a special tour.
