Hi my name is Fione. I have always lived in suburbs and this is what I write about. I don't like mancaves that don't allow women, unneeded advice and people jumping the queue. I like photography, the smell of sweets and the sun. I was away for some while, but I'm back writing and photographing, bringing you articles about new to discover spots.

I didn’t even want to go there. It was only because of the -one time- reunion performance of my true heroes, de Raggende Manne, that I did volunteer for the job. But what a great time I had at Magneet festival. It’s worth the damn trip, I can assure you. Somewhere on the east side of town, near IJburg and on top of the Zeeburgertunnel (Oostpunt), is a small field packed with second hand caravans and a few old tents. You’d miss it if you don’t take notice of the hand-painted sign at the Kriterion Shell pump station.

I really underestimated this festival big time. Magneet Festival is truly magnificent because of its varied programme. It has an atmosphere of Ruigoord meets NMH Festival, with funny signs everywhere, a micro museum peep show, amazing theatre, fashion stands and spoken word performances. People working hoolahoops, predicting your future with some magic cards and a bunch of nutters who play dress up in animal costumes. You can even cuddle yourself into a blanket at the camp fire. This feels like holiday in our home town.

It is not a festival to be taken lightly though. We have some seriously nice artists playing here. August the 23th San Proper performed live on stage, and Arjuna Schiks followed a few days later. So go and get some tickets and show some full throttle driving, because it will be gone again soon!
