Ron Mandos Art Gallery picks the best talent fresh from all of the newly graduated art academy students. This year, the opening turned out to be on a rainy evening, but the weather didn’t keep the crowd from showing up in large numbers. The exhibition gives a varied view of different types of art forms. From abstract to figurative painting to video installations; there’s something for everyone.
The stuff I liked most were pieces by:
Puck Verkade
It’s a personal documentary running on three screens, about a Christian cult-like group in Gelderland who were preparing themselves for the tsunami that’s about to flood the Netherlands. Have a seat and enjoy the show. It would be interesting to see how this can translate to TV + iPad for example.
Minke Nelissen
She has a beautiful projection set up. I have no idea what it’s about but it looked great.
Bas van Wieringen
He shows several movies on small screens all hooked up together. He performs useful tasks, like balancing a broken tree on his head, standing on a plank above the canals and more. Some of these installation were already sold on the opening night.
Besides giving newly found artists a platform to show their work, Mandos also hands out a Young Blood award. This consists of a sum of money and presentations in the gallery and at an art fair. The winner will be published on the 3rd of September.
