At this yearly event, graduates from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie will show you how all the work they did while studying at one of the most established schools in the field of modern art has led to this final exhibition. Take note of their names and work, since from now on they will travel the world and show their artistic values. I’ve been there many times and it’s never the same: sometimes weird, guaranteed artistic and always surprising. Think about how unique it is to be surprised these days.

The future of art

It’s hard to be a true original, and one of the main foundations of the Academie is to guide its students in finding their own voice, style and expression. More than two hundred students from all departments will show their work, ranging from fashion and graphic design to fine arts. The exhibition will be opened by Professor Dr. Robbert Dijkgraaf, President of the KNAW as well as a former Academie student.

One of the graduates at the jewellery department is Marina Elenskaya, who is from Russia and wound up at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy via the Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence, Italy. This shows how internationally-minded the Rietveld Academie is as well.

If you decide to pay a visit, you might as well go there on Saturday the 9th of July since at this date the winners of the ‘Gerrit Rietveld Academie Awards’ will be announced. This award is given to the most remarkable students and their projects at Gerrit Rietveld. It’s your chance to meet the artists in the wild, and don’t worry: they won’t bite. At least that is what they say.
