Although I am not a (very) religious person, there is one event this weekend I do not want to miss: Kerkennacht (or Church Night) Amsterdam. It is an event not only for religious ones, but also for those who simply adore architecture, darkness and unusual happenings. Imagine. 12 churches in the centre of Amsterdam. Darkness or about-to-get-dark. Music, photography, performances, talks, a cup of coffee/tea and a tasty cake, depending on each church.
Question: What else is needed to make this night special?
Answer: You on your bike, foot or even in a boat.
The Church Night welcomes everybody, no matter what his or her religion (if any) and relationship with church is. It’s not a night to talk about religion, although that’s also possible. It’s rather an evening to appreciate the beauty and diversity of Amsterdam’s churches. If that’s not enough, this weekend’s Church Night takes place in 19 other Dutch cities. Hop in a train and see more! Maybe we meet there?
