About the author
Part-time pop journalist, living within walking distance from Leidseplein, hence ending up at gigs almost every other night. Every musical genre will do, but I have a preference for dark, melancholic, and above all authentic and honest music. If you feel there's a band I should know about, enlighten me by mailing to macha@overdose.am.

So it’s Monday and you’re probably drowning in self pity after partying too hard. Work, school or a combination of both are making your life miserable and the only thing you’re looking forward to is the next weekend. Chin up dear reader. Bear with me and I will show you a world of musical splendour. Every other Monday, I will point out the best indie, folk and rock shows you might not want to miss. Get your ticket, enjoy the music and get straight to bed after. This is just what you need to slide a bit smoother through another cruel week of hard work.

Comment below this post on our Facebook with the first thing you think of when you hear California to enter in the Evaline give-away!

The Weakerthans

Why: Those of you who have the same love for the archetype of indie, represented by bands like Nada Surf and Death Cab for Cutie, should definitely get to Bitterzoet this Sunday! The Weakerthans is one of Canada’s hidden treasures, even though they’ve been around since 1997. Bitterzoet is giving you worth for your money, cause Alamo Race Track and Sean Rowe will also be playing that night. 4 Euros a band is a hell of a deal, so cancel your other plans, if you have them!
Where: Bitterzoet
When: Sunday 26th of June
Tickets: €12,00

Evaline – 2×2 give-away

Why: Evaline can either refer to a small town in Washington, or to a fairly new, cool band from California. The guys are in their early twenties, but already have a smart, alternative sound that got them on tour with Placebo. Debut album Woven Material will be out next week, so have a listen and be convinced by their beautiful music. I bet the career of these young ones will sky-rocket, so grab this chance to see them on the stage of Paradiso’s cosy top floor.
Where: Paradiso
When: Tuesday, 5th of July
Tickets: €9,00

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

Why: This New York based dream-pop band has a new album out called Belong, a really good follow-up to their 2009 self titled debut. The shoegaze, noise component in their music balances out the upbeat, poppy sound. A very talented band that has a good live reputation!
Where: Trouw
When: Monday, July 11th
Tickets: €16,00
