Hi! My name is Faye and I will be your guide through Amsterdam for the day! Enjoys randomness chat, good banter and will help you find the best dealers in fun, food and adventure.

I love hotels. Maybe an odd thing to be keen on, but I am. Tales of Hotel Babylon come to mind; guests with weird habits and strange requests plus the sense of adventure that being in a different place than your home gives. I also love fashion and last night these two of my favourites (image flash of Julie Andrews singing on a mountain) were combined.  Overdose.am was invited to the new-found Mint hotel at the Oosterdokskade in Amsterdam. Not to sleep in one of the chic bedrooms or check out their renowned sky lounge, but to attend the fashion show of the infamous Janice.

Project Runway

Janice shot to fame a couple years back by attending the Dutch version of Project Runway. He didn’t win the competition and was actually sent home in episode 6, but after the show his career took off. The audience took a liking to his voluptuous and feminine designs. Janice’s creations started to appear in the Linda, Beau Monde and Grazia. Now his clothes can be found in more than 38 stores in the Netherlands, and last night he presented his new collection to a very diverse crowd.

Janice’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection

The show was held in the restaurant lobby of the new Mint hotel. Guests, including X-Factor’s Adlicious, Marie van de Ven and Geert Hoes, were seated at the dinner tables whilst enjoying a glass of champagne. Then, out of the blue, a large black bus appeared outside of the hotel. A handful of musicians walked out, playing gypsy music, followed by Holland’s Next Top Model Kim Feenstra and Nadia Palesa Poeschmann. An entourage of 15 models dressed in Janice’s Spring/Summer gypsy collection of 2012 had started the day in Breda followed by Eindhoven, Bathmen and final destination Amsterdam.

Suddenly, the fire alarm went off whilst the models were trotting down the aisle, but they did not flinch one bit and it actually added to the gypsy mayhem. The collection itself is a combination of different fabrics with prominent glitters, a lot of layers and soft earth-like colours such as  beige, white, brown, green and grey. The assembly is the very opposite of his former collection ‘Colour blind’, which consisted of loud bright colours.

Interview

At the after party Adlicious provided the guests with an exclusive performance and I found the chance to ask Janice a few questions:

Your current collection is very different from your former collection, what was your main inspiration this time round?
My main inspiration were the woman of now: travelling woman, the gypsy within. I am originally from a gypsy family and I wanted to show this in the collection with the glitters and layering.

What is your favourite piece?
I love the dress Kim wears at the end of the show. It’s the only one with bright colours and I am really happy with how it turned out.

What should every girl have in her closet according to Janice?
A holster! Like the one I am wearing now. Its fierce looking and every girl should have one!
