Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Friday: Closer – Border Community night with Margot & Kate Wax @ Melkweg (2×2 Give-away)
Amsterdamn, have we got a weekend and another massive hangover ahead of us. Let’s start of with this Friday’s edition of our friend Jorn Liefdeshuis’ Closer nights. This time, one of my favourite labels out there is invited to host with a few of their artists in Leidseplein’s Melkweg. Who am I talking about? Margot, I have to admit, I wasn’t familiar with these Italians, until I heard their Punch EP. Genius. Regarding Kate Wax, it’s basically a dark hearted chick with the power to entertain us with her hot costumes and synths, gotta love ‘em! Of course, Jorn Liefdeshuis will be warming us up for the night, just as he does digitally with his Closer podcasts.
If this all sounds juicy to you, you might want to tell us why you want to get your ass to the melkweg this friday on Facebook to win one of our 2×2 give-away tickets!
Friday: “ON” with: Pär Grindvik, Lucy, Jeff Rushin, Mike Wall, Rosie & Ixel @ Undercurrent CANCELLED!
Unfortunately, the Pacman era in the NDSM bunker has vanished. The place where the ON parties always felt like true raw techno ensembles. Fortunately, the guys behind ON have found a new nest to continue their saga. A few hundred meters west of the bunker a new location called Undercurrent recently opened its doors. For this rebirth, ON went on and booked four DJs from techno capital Berlin and a few of their own residents. Their name says it all, featuring Pär Grindvik, Lucy, Jeff Rushin, Mike Wall, Rosie, Ixel, Esther Duijn, Sandrien, Joey Daniel and Mirella Kroes, this party doesn’t stop ’till 10am in the morning. Welcome back!
Saturday: Der Wanderzirkus goes Amsterdam! @ Odeon
3000 Bookings, Trippinn and Wesdex present Der Wanderzirkus in Odeon this Saturday. I’ve never been a huge fan of Odeon, but you know how a venue matters less when some artist you have a weakness for performs. Well, this is the case this weekend my friends, none other than Dreher & Smart (live) will be headlining this Saturday. No bells ringing yet? Just listen to this remix for Kollektiv Turmstrasse and you might be convinced to go check them out yourself. Other featured artists: Monkey Maffia, Haito, Veggie & Proloog live on sax!, Braser, John Wolff and Der Wanderzirkus circus entertainment. Yes, they have fire-breathers, transvestite dancers and everything beyond that. Wicked!
Saturday: WTTF Presents Watergate @ Studio 80
And more Germans are taking over our small capital this weekend. At Rembrandtplein’s Studio 80, Berlin’s Watergate club/label is invited by Welcome to the Future to host with their residents. Next to the legendary clubs Berghain/Panorama Bar and Tresor, Watergate is one of Berlin’s and the world’s most influential electronic music clubs. Who are on the bill? Watergate’s Sebo K and Sebastian Wilck, supported by Dorine Dorado, David Labeij and Makcim. I hate it when there’s so much musical quality all over our city at the same time.
Sunday: Trammeland @ De Amsterdamsche Tram
Finally, a special event on Sunday to cool off and complement next Monday’s hangover: Trammeland. From noon ’till 10pm, this is an intimate event featuring warm and melodic house & tech-house in the one and only Amsterdamsche Tram. This is 10 hours of music in a tram by James Nidecker, True Identity, Alex Supertramp, Shayam and Timothy Watt. Check out their promo beneath, did I mention it’s free? Enjoy your weekend.
