Too many plans for the summer? Let me narrow your options down by suggesting our cities best festivals where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s part 3 of where you festival warriors should go to for next summer’s hangover. (Part 1 herePart 2 here!)

July 30th: 12inchCity FLOAT Festival @ NDSM Docks

For those of you who don’t know, 12 inch is the size of a vinyl record. The art of DJing with vinyl records is probably still the most respected kind. Each time the guys behind 12inchCity throw an event, it is related to a specific city (Berlin, New York, Detroit, Amsterdam, etc). That explains the name of the organization. This summer these guys are throwing a festival inspired by sun, boats, docks and water: a few of the key elements when thinking of summer and festivals. According to 12inchCity, the dream of having a festival at this perfect location has finally come true. To be specific, the festival will be held at the pier between the Pollux and the infamouns ‘lightship’ close to the NDSM docks of northern Amsterdam. You can rave on the pier or take a walk on the boats to the BPMs of Marcus Meinhardt, Sven & Tettero, Estroe, William Kouam Djoko, Onno and the remaining 12inchCity residents. Expect more info on their afterparty soon.

July 31st: Shoeless Open Air @ Het Rijk van de Keizer

“The only party where you have to hand in not just your jacket, but also your shoes at the wardrobe”.
This is the official tag line of Shoeless, an Amsterdam based minimal/techno party that started out as a joke in 2007 but has now grown into a yearly open air mini-festival. And let’s be honest: there’s not much that sounds better than dancing in the grass on a midsummer afternoon while sipping on a drink and listening to good music, is there? Now add cosy little market shops, foot massages, people dressing up and nice chill-out areas to the mix and start wondering why you don’t have a ticket yet. I have no idea what the line-up will be, I just know they have built up a list of darn good Amsterdam-based residents like Arjuna Schiks and Olivier Weiter. Check out some entertaining video material from last year’s edition beneath.

August 6th: Welcome to the Future @ ‘t Twiske

On Saturday, August 6th, it’s time for the fifth edition of the always succesful festival Welcome to the Future at Amsterdam’s finest nature area ‘t Twiske. You could call it a small anniversary filled with another massive line-up of house, tech-house and techno with over 50 serious national and international names. What I always enjoyed about this event is the variety of colourful tents, art and decorations surrounding the stages. It’s such a big exploration to walk around the huge areas of this festival that it’s weird suddenly remembering that this exotic location is so close to our capital city. A few names: Joris Voorn & Nic Fanciulli, Karotte, Kollektiv Turmstrasse live, Gabriel Ananda, Ben Klock, too many to name.

August 13th: Gaasper Pleasure @ Gaasperplas Zuid

The philosophy behind this festival: intimate location, loving atmosphere and not too big or commercial. That’s how I like ‘em. Also, it’s gonna be their fifth edition and the organisation tries their best to avoid the festival suddenly growing five times bigger. Therefore, no superstar DJs but just quality names like Rodriguez Jr., Olene Kadar, Kabale und Liebe, Lauhaus, De Man Zonder Schaduw, Miss Melera, Mirella Kroes and our friend Arjuna Schiks. One stage will be filled with minimal, deep- & tech-house, the other is for the fanatic bouncer with techno-only DJs. Starting to feel the hangover yet?
