About the author
Part-time pop journalist, living within walking distance from Leidseplein, hence ending up at gigs almost every other night. Every musical genre will do, but I have a preference for dark, melancholic, and above all authentic and honest music. If you feel there's a band I should know about, enlighten me by mailing to macha@overdose.am.

So it’s Monday and you’re probably drowning in self pity after partying too hard. Work, school or a combination of both are making your life miserable and the only thing you’re looking forward to is the next weekend. Chin up dear reader. Bear with me and I will show you a world of musical splendour. Every other Monday, I will point out the best indie, folk and rock shows you might not want to miss. Get your ticket, enjoy the music and get straight to bed after. This is just what you need to slide a bit smoother through another cruel week of hard work.

Little Dragon

Why: A bit short notice, but what are you doing tonight? If you don’t have plans yet you should think about going to Melkweg. Little Dragon is a really nice, easy listening band from Sweden, with a half Asian female vocalist who has a perfect, velvet-like voice. The band collaborated with Gorillaz on two tracks from Plastic Beach and supported the band in HMH last year. Their music can be laid back at times, or very danceable. Great for a Monday night after partying hard in the weekend!
Where: Melkweg
When: Monday, May 9th (tonight)
Tickets: €13,-

The Soft Moon

Why: Subbacultcha! always does great programming and again they are spot on with The Soft Moon. They’re still quite small, but will gain in popularity in the following months! Pitchfork rated their debut album an 8.1 and I believe it’s worth even more. For those who enjoy the dark side of the ’80s this show is a definite must! Amazing, haunting post-punk/new wave. Unfortunately I’m not there, but you should be, so you can tell me if it was as great as I imagined.
Where: OCCII
When: Saturday, May 14th
Tickets: €7,-

Crystal Stilts

Why: If you enjoyed the dark and gloomy vibe at The Soft Moon and want some more: meet Crystal Stilts. Almost everything that comes from New York is good; guess it’s something in the water. This band draws its inspiration from across the Atlantic Ocean though. Heard of a band called Joy Division? I bet you have. Like it? Then Crystal Stilts might be your cup of tea too.
Where: Paradiso
When: Thursday, June 2nd
Tickets: €9,-
