Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Thursday: Woo Riddim feat. Lando Kal @ Jimmy Woo
Lando is a talented DJ/producer operating out of Berlin and is one half of Lazer Sword (along with Low Limit). This guy is flying the flag for futuristic club music stateside. Releases on labels like Numbers and Hotflush. Besides that local heroes Cinnaman and Victor Crezee will warm up and close off the night. Expect house, garage, grime, booty, juke, rnb and hip-hop. All of this on Amsterdam’s finest soundsystem: Funktion-One.
Friday: PLAK @ Chicago Social Club & Club Up
Featuring upcoming Romanian superstar Zotist and with PLAK residents such as Jaime Frias, Alex Supertramp & Ferro, things are bound to get sticky in Leidseplein’s renewed venue (formerly BC12). Main party goes on ’till 4am, get a midnight snack, cross the road and enter Club Up around 4.30, afterparty hours have commenced. Oyeah, the first 75 Chicago Social Club visitors get a free ticket for the after-party! Boom.
Friday: Late Night Society feat. Wareika @ Trouw
Wareika stands for live (as in instruments and stuff) electronic music and good vibes. The German Trio (Henrik Raabe, Florian Schirmacher & Jakob Seidensticker) made their mark on the music world in Feb 2008. Originally signing to Connaisseur Superieur, the trio have since recorded/signed with other labels such as Eskimo, Tartelet Rec & Future Classic. Wareika’s sound can be classed anything from tech-house to afro-beat to dub. Supporting him on behalf of Late Night Society: William Kouam Djoko and Tom Ruijg.
Friday: Dekmantel 4 year anniversary @ Paradiso
This friday Dekmantel celebrates its 4 year anniversary with three of their all-time favourite guests. Minimal techno pioneer Robert Hood will grace Paradiso with a highly exlcusive live-set, Motor City Drum Ensemble and Floating Points will each play Dj-sets. Once again, cognitive dissonance has struck me on the matter of where to go this Friday in Amsterdam.
Sunday: Trouw op Zondag feat. Omar S @ Trouw
All the way from the legendary streets of Detroit, Omar S is in town this Sunday for a special showcase. Alex “Omar” Smith is a Detroit House & Techno producer. Similar to Theo Parrish, Moodymann, et al. One of the few real underground House producers at the moment. He runs the FXHE label and releases his own music as well as some collaborations through limited pressings.Furthermore, what is Trouw op Zondag? A place to grab a bite or do a dance with a crowd that’s mixed with both freshly off the boat and ones who have been raving around for the last 12 hours. I can seriously recommend this if you’re not feeling ‘lazy’ this sunday.
