A new series about concept stores, pop-up stores, ateliers/shops and artists selling their goods.
A while ago I introduced you to newly-graduated fashion designer Kirsten Popkema. In the meantime, a lot has happened to her, and her career has taken a few steps forward. She and her ‘partner in fashion’ Hye Yoo Mi have opened a pop-up store and atelier in the Magna Plaza, Amsterdam. The store is called the ShowAtelier, because it’s a showroom and workspace in one. Kirsten and Yoo Mi are there almost everyday, working on new clothes and headgear.
The store is very spatial and light, with pictures of models hanging from the white walls. One wall is totally covered in cardboard. The beautiful hairsculpture and headgear collection, called Second HairDo, are created by Hye Yoo Mi. The clothes are all designed and made by Kirsten Popkema. To give the store an extra dimension, they invited some other designers to show their artwork in the store as well. Product designers Chris Ruhe and Sjoerd Vroonland designed the beautifully crafted chairs and clothes hangers.
From here on, they will look for new possibilities to exhibit and sell their clothes and art on new locations. The store is ‘moving’, so you might want to take a look before they’re gone and open up somewhere else!
