Just a week ago, a new Amsterdam based online magazine called Collect & Curate was launched and its creators state it entails an agglomeration of cool, collected and curated by guest writers from around the world. It attempts to present a global view of cool stretching along a various degree of disciplines and topics. I was interested in their view on men’s clothing and decided to interview Asheru Alhaag, Ashwin Murli, and Abderrahmane Trabsini, the three gentlemen behind it.
They told me that Collect & Curate started from the idea of giving readers an experience as close to reading a real magazine as possible. As fans of GQ and Monocle magazine they want to create a similar experience through internet, but not in the same way as everybody does. They do it by presenting a well designed spread, features and a presenting style that is relevant to their target market, age 18 to 30. One thing that also caught my eyes is the fact that Collect & Curate has many different writers from around the world in each issue, and are open for writers around the world who are willing to contribute. This gives the readers a worldwide view on their topics.
When asked about Amsterdam’s style, particularly in men, they said that you don’t really see one sort of style here. For example, Paris is known for its elegance, and London for being dandy. They see Amsterdam’s people as more down to earth and safe in the way they dress and according to them, this needs to be improved.
Okay, now its time for some more serious questions:
What do you see first from a girl?
Asheru: Hair and ass!
Ashwin: Apart from the brain, the ass!
Abder: Ass!
We all agreed that style is also important!
Who is your favourite porn-star?
Asheru: Ice la Fox
Ashwin: Priya Rai, Mia Lina
Abder: Jenny Hendrix
4 words for hipster girls?
Asheru: Nice in the summer time
Ashwin: Take off your clothes
Abder: Girl in just tights
Favourite artist at the moment?
Asheru: The Streets
Ashwin: Theo Martins
Abder: Moodymann
And last one, any inspirational words for our readers?
Asheru: Don’t over-think stuff, just do it!
Ashwin: Follow your guts!
Abder: When you work, you must focus and work only, then you can work less and accomplish more!
