About the author
Hi! My name is Faye and I will be your guide through Amsterdam for the day! Enjoys randomness chat, good banter and will help you find the best dealers in fun, food and adventure.

Our town has many places to visit for a bite and sizzle those taste buds. The Meet and Eat series will lend you a hand and help uncover the diverse cuisine of Amsterdam.

Pat a cake, Pat a cake, baker’s man
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Pat it and prick it and mark it with a ‘B’,
And put it in the oven for Baby and me.

From English nursery rhymes to referring to our loved ones as cupcake, sweetie pie, sugar plum and stud muffin. The average human’s obsession with sweet food is so strong that it can be found in our day to day language. Everyone desires a bit of sweetness, if it’s because you have been smoking the ganja, it’s just ‘that time’ of the month or you are a 24/7 sweet-tooth. Overdose brings you a place where you can unleash your sweet food fury.

In 1990 Sieman de Jong and Noam Offer started as a food-service bakery and over the years have specialized their craft by creating unusual and unique cakes. From edible clothing, exhibitions at the Rijksmuseum to their cakes appearing in award winning films like Ja Zuster Nee Zuster, De Jong and Offer have created a ‘sweet’ reputation for themselves. The frosting on the cake was the opening of De Taart van m’n Tante in 2003; a place where you can taste some of their creative designs and have a nice cup of tea. The location looks like it was designed by Barbie on LSD: the café is a mix and mingle of different prints, flowers, leprechauns, pink bulldogs, snow dolls, baby pictures, glitter hearts, antique lamps and huge cakes everywhere!

After staking out the place we ordered a few treats for ourselves: a cheesecake made of a butter biscuit crust and quark filling and a lemon pie with a Harde Wener crust filled with lemon curd. I was expecting a wee bit more from the cheesecake, but what the cheesecake missed in flavour the lemon pie more than made up for. If you have a thing for sourness you will really enjoy their lemon pie.

You want some cake under your pillow?
Above De Taart van m’n Tante is a bed and breakfast called ‘Cake Under my Pillow’. This was also an initiative of Sieman and Noam: the duo took their cake dream a step further in 2004 by offering cake lovers a place to wake up and go to sleep with cakes around them.
